Potter Stinks

Aha. I’m sooo happy. I just found out they’re kicking the new Potter movie out to July of 09. They say it’s to “bridge the gap”. Lies. It’s because they failed to produce a trailer soon enough. But yeah, I’m really happy, because I am sooo not in the mood to think about seeing that fiasco so soon. Maybe they can use these extra months to produce a GOOD MOVIE. Like they will..ha.. Anyways, I know that a lot of people are sad about it, but really, like, Beedle the Bard is out in December (in time for my birthday, if you’re wondering what to get me) so that should be enough to hold you. Like the two would have been really close together anyways because the movie was going to be released in November. So look at it this way: It’s stretching out anticipation for the fandom so they can hold you for longer.

Also, thanks everyone for reading and voicing your opinions. I love talking about movies and hearing what others have to say. And I hope the fandom isn’t too mad at me for this post. Haha.

They'll have a lovely sping wedding

I took a liking to the trailer for Eagle Eye, as well as Watchmen (I’ll comment on Watchmen some other time). It looks pretty good. There’s a saying in a few film circles about how for a Spielberg film to be good, it has to be his baby. He has to conceive it, carry it, give birth, breast feed it, and so on. And then you have Schindler’s List. And now it seems he’s taken a liking to young Shia Lebouf. There’s Disturbia, Transformers 1 and 2, Indiana Jones, and now Eagle Eye. I know lots of directors have favourite actors and use them over and over, but this is a lot for a short time period. It’s quite curious.

Anyways, check out Eagle Eye at the official website here.

Harry Potter 6 trailer

Well, somehow, we finally have the trailer we’ve waited months for. It is available here.

So, I’m both excited and annoyed. It starts off with a shot of the Hogwarts Express, and then we see Dumbledore taking out the memories for the pensive and Harry goes in. From there on, it’s just the scene where Dumbledore finds Riddle in the orphanage and we see how “evil the kid is” and stuff. It just seems dark and overly dramatic. It doesn’t make me interested in seeing it. I feel like “Ok, well now it seems like its a dull copy of the book” and it doesn’t contain anything that makes me go “ooh, that looks pretty neat.” All of the other trailers atleast had a nice magical atmosphere. This was just …blah. I hope they can come out with something more interesting. No doubt it’ll be horrible, but there’s always SOMETHING interesting in each movie to make it worth watching.

Blogger Note and The Dark Knight

Note to Blogger bloggers: Well I was finally able to log back in. I don't know why but this site doesn't save my password and won't let me log in half the time and I keep having to create new passwords..*sigh* Ok, well. I'm back, for now, and so here's the latest.

Well, I saw The Dark Knight. Did it live up to its hype? Well sort of. I have a pro con list along with a rating and some comments.

Pros:

  • Brilliant acting, well not on Bale’s part, but all the raving about Ledger was true.
  • Excellent pacing
  • The creation of Two Face was an unsuspected yet welcomed turn
  • Great action and explosions

Cons:

  • It was ridiculously long. I thought it was going end like, twice.
  • The plot was rough. I kept getting lost.
  • Confusing effects and camera shots. The camera just spun around and there were scenes where you couldn’t tell what was going on because of all the digital effects.

So basically, this movie is about Bruce Wayne wanting someone to be inspired by him and change the city. His wish is granted by Harvey Dent, whom comic fans know as Two Face. The movie follows Bruce as he tries to stop the Joker from wreaking havoc and help Harvey clean up the city. It all goes awry in the end when Harvey claims he’s Batman, and he and Rachel end up captive and Rachel dies and Harvey gets half his face burned off in an explosion. Then the Joker continues to cause trouble while Two Face runs amok. I couldn’t follow the story half the time, but other then that it was a really good movie.

I give it 4 bats out of 5.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls (SPOILER HEAVY)

Hey, Just a warning, there will be a loooot of spoilers, considering how this is what got me to make this blog in the first place.

Alright, so, it opens with the amazing Elvis and his Hound Dog song, as the camera pans across the desert. Teens speeding along carefree in a car. Amazing. It’s how I always pictured the 50’s. They drive up to a bunch of army cars and race them down the highway, until the army cars turn off down a stray road and right up to, you guessed it, Area 51. Turns out, these guys are Reds and have infiltrated parts of the government to gain access to certain areas. They kill the guys guarding the entrance and drive to a large warehouse. In their trunk the whole time was Jones and his friend Mac. Here we meet Kate Blancett’s character. And omg she’s amazing. Alright…well, at this rate, I’m going to over kill this page SOOOO, Jones unwillingly helps them find a crate from the Roswell crash, which contains a mummified body and Mac turns on him, cause the Red’s pay better. Indy escapes them, then an atomic blast, and gets fired from his teaching job. He gets on a train to go to New York when he is stopped by Mutt, who was sent to him by his mother, Mary. Mary knows a friend of Jones’s and they’ve both been kidnapped. Here the skulls are introduced. Blahblahblah, they go to Peru and find the skull, they get captured by Reds, and Indy is forced to succumb to the power of the skull. Here they run into Mutt’s mom, whom is none other than Marion Ravenwood. YAY! Hehe, yep, and she reveals later that, *gasp* Indy is the father!? Oh yes. Mutt is really Henry Jones the Third. From there they fight for the skull and make it to El Dorado where they find a room full of alien skeletons and the Russians catch up and return the head and are abducted and destroyed and the aliens fly away and Indy and Marion get married.

What I liked:

  1. The whole 50’s air was perfect. The music and the greasers and the styles. It was so great.
  2. Indy’s spirit wasn’t weakened by his age. He fought like he was 30 again.
  3. All of the characters were perfectly written.
  4. Indy had a kid!!!!
  5. And he finally settles down and marries Marion.
  6. The sound effects were great. They had all of the POW and WHAM that the others had.
  7. The visual effects were absolutely astounding!
  8. The music was spectacular.
  9. The hat saving. Oh yes.

What I DIDN’T like:

  1. The aliens. Ok, just….wtf? I wanted the skulls to be like..the glasses in transformers. With secrets embedded inside and all…it just kinda killed it for me when a space ship flew outta the ground.
  2. Random things like the ground hogs and the monkeys that just appeared and made faces at the characters.
  3. Marcus Brody’s beheaded statue. D; I almost cried.
So, I got most of what I wanted. And I know many people were happy with the ending. I feel that most people didn’t really get it though. It’s still my Indy though. It’s just another adventure.

Metal Meets Alloy + new Indy 4 trailer

Ok, well I was kind of putting off this post because I wasn’t sure how to expression my opinion in words.

Ironman was all in all a great film. The character was superbly written. Cocky and condescending. Its cleverly written and very anti-war pro-peace, portrayed with violence and science. I don’t want to go in and explain the plot because I’m likely to go spoiler nuts and make you read a huge block of text. So here is my Pro Con list for the movie, starting with con.

Con:

  1. The pacing sucked. It just kind of went everywhere all at once and it annoyed me. It settled out fine in the end, but the beginning just drove me nuts.
  2. It was portrayed in all the trailers as a BOOM EXPLODE IRONMAN MAKE BOOOOM type of movie, and i wanted to see IRONMAN MAKE BOOOOOM! There were some explosions, but it was advertised as a kind of free-for-all explosion frenzy where Ironman was like “Hulk go smash!” Except he isn’t the Hulk. But he still would go smash. It’s good that they focused mainly on the plot, but it didn’t seem to have a good balance of both.

Pro:

  1. Amazing dialog, acting, graphics, and camera angles. I was stunned.
  2. The music score was intense. Brain pounding metal, heck yes!
  3. The overall story line was very good. It seemed like I’ve seen it ten thousand times before, but it was originalized enough for it not to matter.

So, it’s super awesome. It should totally been seen in the theaters, especially one with surround sound and HD screens.

In other news, tagged onto the Ironman movie was a new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. In this trailer, Indy himself gives a voice over explaining the Crystal Skulls. Then we get a better sense of the plot when his new nemesis, (A soviet! AHA!) has captured him and commands him to bring her the skull.

So, it seems that most of my predictions were correct so far. I called the Soviet thing 3 years ago. And that someone would want something of great importance and try to get Indy’s help. Of course, we all know Jones isn’t going to help the Russians. I personally think that once he refuses to help them, they decide to go on their own, sing a more brutal force than he would have, thus causing him to go after them and get the skull before they do to stop them.

The Movie of the Month is coming later this week!

Moving Back into Blogger

Seeing as I'm not getting much of anywhere with WordPress, I'm going to start posting my movie blog posts here. I'll still be posting there, I just think I could get more feed back from Blogger. WordPress has gone totally political lately and film is scarcely making any headway. If you want to see what is going on so far, check http://filmingflamingo.wordpress.com . I don't really intend to carry over all of my posts in one day. So you can check there if you're interested (It's rather organized) and recent entries will soon be here as well.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
